GTSport Racing Closes in on Championship

Marietta, GA – August 25, 2015 – GTSport Racing drivers Jack Baldwin and Buz McCall maintain strong championship points standings following the conclusion of GTS Rounds 13 and 14 at Miller Motorsports Park. Although the high altitude level of Toole, UT lends some advantages to their turbo-charged competitors, the team entered the weekend with high hopes of success as the 24-turn circuit somewhat favors the Porsche Cayman S.

Baldwin wasted no time getting out front and threw down an impressive qualifying time for third place on the starting grid behind two turbo-charged competitors. The 50-minute race was hard fought and came down to a drag race to the stripe where Baldwin finished in second position. His efforts placed him fifth on the starting grid for Round 14. Executing a fantastic standing start, Baldwin rocketed to second place where he fought hard despite a clear lack of straight line speed. The race ended in a drag strip to the line where he missed the podium by a mere fourteen-thousands of a second to claim fourth place.

“Overall, we had a great weekend. I entered the weekend fifth in points and about a hundred points out of first. Now I am still in fifth but only 46 points out of the lead. We’re heading to two Porsche tracks where I know we can execute at the highest level. I am proud of the team, I am happy with the weekend but we want to win in Sonoma and that is what we’re prepared to do.”

McCall also came out swinging, turning a thirteenth place qualifying lap and getting a fantastic start in Round 13. Unfortunately, a rare power steering issue caused McCall to make a pit stop roughly 30 minutes in to the 50 minute race. The GTSport Racing crew was able to repair the issue in mere seconds and got McCall back on track for a 16th place finish and valuable points. McCall also performed a brilliant standing start and charged through the field on the front straightaway. McCall continued to battle for the entirety of the 50 minutes until a late race spin set him back two positions to 14th where he took the checkered flag.

“I had fun racing with our GTS current point leader for most of the race.  I admit I got excited racing with him and managed to waste my effort with a spin in the exact same spot as last year late in the race.  I left the weekend knowing I did my personal best.   That's all I can ask for. I also had great fun whipping up on some of the young team members on the go kart track Saturday night.”

Next stop for GTSport Racing is Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA for Rounds 15 and 16 this weekend August 28-30, 2015. Baldwin holds the fastest lap and the fastest race lap records at Sonoma Raceway and looks to defend his title and take hold of the GTS Championship lead.
